The harness rides on a sliding yoke with five inches of torso adjustment, so one pack covers a wide span of body sizes — measure your torso and set the yoke before loading it up. There's no women's version of this exact pack; that role goes to the Kyte LT, which shares the same system.

What's the realistic load ceiling?

Osprey rates it to 18 kg (about 40 lbs), which is a genuinely usable number for a $220 pack — that's a week of food plus shoulder-season gear. The AirScape panel keeps the load close to your back, which helps stability on rough trail.

Is the rain cover included or extra?

Included — it lives in its own zippered pocket at the base of the pack, so it's always with you. That's a real saving over packs that treat the cover as a $40 add-on.

Will a bear canister fit?

Osprey doesn't publish canister compatibility for the Kestrel LT. At 65 L a standard canister will generally load vertically with room to pack around it, as with most packs this size, but if confirmed fit matters to you the Gregory Amber 68 is one of the few packs that states it outright.

Will my back sweat with the AirScape panel?

More than with Osprey's suspended-mesh packs, less than with a flat foam pad — the ridged foam channels some air but stays in contact with your back. If ventilation is your top priority, the Atmos or Rook trade some stability for a true trampoline mesh.
