Tenzing Backpacks

Tenzing makes hunting day packs, not backpacking packs, and it belongs to a hunting-accessories group rather than an outdoor-gear one. GSM Outdoors of Irving, Texas bought it in April 2021 along with nine other Plano Synergy brands, including Ameristep blinds, Zink calls and Barnett crossbows. That puts Tenzing alongside treestand and call makers, and the designs show it: quiet fabrics, bow and rifle carry, and pockets laid out for calls and rangefinders rather than for a sleeping bag.

Being part of GSM also shapes service: warranty claims go to GSM Outdoors with an original receipt from an authorized retailer and a return authorization number, and the length of cover varies by product. Keep the receipt.

Tenzing's day packs split into two designs. The Day Pack 2100 and the Hangtime Day Pack are organizers first: the Day Pack 2100 opens flat for one-handed access to a fold-down panel with 15 pockets and has a 5-point padded waistband, and the Hangtime uses a molded shell that hangs open on a treestand hook. The Rambler and Voyager are conventional top-and-side-loading packs covered in soft tricot that does not rasp against brush, both on what Tenzing calls a trampoline suspension that holds the pack off your back for airflow. The Rambler has four compression straps for carrying a bow or rifle. None has a load shelf or frame stays, and Tenzing publishes no load rating for any of them, so none is suited to packing meat out.

The Hangtime lets you reach a rangefinder or call at eye level without digging through a collapsed soft pack, but owners keep loads to 15-20 lbs, since nothing behind the shell carries weight. Stiff zippers are the main complaint in the owner reports that exist, and working them in before the season helps. Tenzing's own store currently lists a Hangtime Lumbar Pack rather than this day pack, so confirm a seller has stock before planning around it.
