Deuter Aircontact Lite 45+10 SL

The women's-fit Aircontact Lite, with the SL back range of 35-56 cm and women's-specific strap and hip fin geometry. It is the lightest framed trekking pack Deuter offers in a women's fit outside the Aircontact Ultra, and at $230 it is priced well under most women's packs of the same volume.

Pros

  • 1,540 g in a women's fit is genuinely light for a framed pack with an adjustable back length.
  • Both SL volumes have published weights, so the 35+10 at 1,490 g is a real option rather than an unquantified guess.
  • The 35-56 cm VariQuick range covers notably shorter torsos than the men's 42-62 cm version.
  • $230 undercuts most women's-specific framed packs at 55 L by a wide margin.
  • The zip-out divider and stretch pockets carry over from the standard Lite unchanged.
  • ECL hip fins pull forward to tension, shaped for a women's hip angle rather than a shortened men's fin.
  • Recycled 600D polyester and PFAS-free DWR, consistent with the rest of the current Deuter line.
  • Backed by the same lifetime repair policy.

Cons

  • 12-15 kg maximum load means it runs out of comfort well before the Aircontact Core SL does.
  • No frame sheet or aluminium stay, so heavy or badly packed loads sag against the back.
  • 140D ripstop is the least durable fabric in Deuter's trekking range.
  • No rain cover included.
  • The 5 L step between the two SL sizes is small, so the choice is really about back length, not volume.
  • Lid is removable but has no daypack function.
  • Hipbelt pockets are not listed in the specification.
  • Bear-canister fit is not stated by Deuter.

The Aircontact Lite is the trimmed-down version of the Core: same VariQuick torso range and the same general shape, but an open-cell foam back instead of the aluminium Y-frame, and a 140D ripstop face fabric in place of 500D. That drops 720 g against the Core 50+10 and about $60, at the cost of roughly 9 kg of load rating.

The Futura Air Trek is Deuter's answer to the Osprey Atmos and Aura: a fully suspended mesh back panel tensioned over a spring steel frame, so the pack sits off the back entirely rather than against foam ribs. That buys the best ventilation in Deuter's trekking range at the cost of load rating, which tops out at 15 kg against the Aircontact Core's 20 kg.

Deuter Aircontact Core 50+10

Traditional Pack

The Aircontact Core is Deuter's mainstream load-hauler and the pack most often cross-shopped against the Osprey Aether and Gregory Baltoro. Its Aircontact back uses foam ribs and Air Spacer mesh against an external aluminium Y-frame, which prioritises load transfer over the suspended-mesh airflow of the Futura line. The +10 collar and detachable lid make the stated 50 L closer to 60 L when loaded for a longer trip.
